A rotatable brush drive apparatus 100 for a vacuum cleaner is disclosed. The apparatus 100 is capable of selectively transmitting power from a motor 110 to a rotatable agitating brush. The apparatus 100 includes the motor 110 which generates a suction force, the rotatable brush 120, a belt 130 for transmitting the rotation force of the motor to the rotatable brush 120, and a drive selection unit 140 pivotally installed around the rotation shaft 111 of the motor 110, for selectively transmitting the rotation force of the motor 110 to the rotatable brush 120 by selectively contacting the belt 130 with the rotation shaft 111. The drive selection unit 140 preferably includes a link or lever 141 installed pivotally around the shaft 111. The lever 141 is arranged so that when the user pulls the lever 141 the rotation shaft 111 comes into contact with the belt 130 and thus the rotatable brush 120 is driven and when the lever 141 is pushed by the user the rotation shaft 111 is separated from the belt 130 and thus the rotatable brush 120 stops rotating. |
