A display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to enable a barrier to prevent impurities, present between first and second substrates, from moving between neighboring pixel areas, thereby preventing afterimages in the display device. In a first substrate(100), pixel areas(PA) are formed. A second substrate(200) faces the first substrate to be coupled with the first substrate. A spacer(S) is interposed between the first and second substrates, and spaces the first substrate from the second substrate. A barrier(B) is made from the same material as the spacer, and installed between the pixel areas. The barrier prevents impurities from moving between the pixel areas.
