PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow rapid transition even if a volume manager with not completely opened specifications is used. SOLUTION: For executing transition from a first volume manager to a second volume manager, the volume transition program includes a process for making the first volume manager operate actual access to acquire information about association made between a logical volume offset and a physical block on a physical medium by the first volume manager, a process for determining whether an exceptional data layout is done out or not based on the acquired information about association, and a process for updating only a header area on the physical medium for the second volume manager when it is determined that no exceptional data layout is done.
