An apparatus and a method for power control are provided to reduce a system driving time by limiting discharge of a battery until a charge voltage of the battery reaches a voltage required for system driving. An apparatus(20) for power control includes a charge circuit(21), a comparison unit, and a control unit(40). The charge circuit charges a battery(30) by receiving predetermined power. The comparison unit compares a voltage charged in the battery with a proper voltage required for system driving. The control unit controls to supply the voltage required for system driving when the voltage charged in the battery is more than the proper voltage. The control unit selectively generates a driving signal by determining whether reaching the proper voltage by receiving the voltage charged in the battery. At least one converter(22,23) is enabled according to the driving signal and converts the voltage charged in the battery into a voltage level required for system driving.
