PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TiC-dispersed cast iron material having a Young's modulus though being admixed with Ti, thus having high rigidity, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: A molten metal comprising, by mass, 2 to 3.8% C, 0.6 to 4% Si and 0.3 to 15% Ti is prepared, and TiC is crystallized out into the molten metal. Next, using this molten metal, casting is performed, and rapid cooling is performed, so as to produce a casting. Since chilling progresses by the rapid cooling, cementite is present in the metallic structure of the casting. The cementite is decomposed by the application of heat treatment to the casting, thus lumpy graphite is precipitated into the metallic structure. Namely, a TiC-dispersed cast iron material where lumpy graphite and TiC are dispersed into the metallic structure can be obtained. It is also possible that Bi for promoting the chilling is further added in the ratio of 0.001 to 0.01 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
