PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent collision between an object to be recorded and a recording head in the cleaning action. SOLUTION: The ink-jet recorder comprises a conveyance part 320 which conveys a recording paper 250, a platen 330 which supports the recording paper from one face, the recording head 262 which forms an image by ejecting the ink towards the recording paper while moving back and forth in a direction that intersects a conveyance direction on the platen, a wiper which is fixed outside of the platen with respect to the reciprocative movement direction of the recording head and wipes a surface of the recording head in the cleaning action, and a control part 360 which controls the conveyance part and the recording head. When execution of the cleaning action is indicated and the recording paper is present on the platen, the control part makes the recording paper retreated from on the platen, and then makes the recording head wiped by the wiper.
