The device has an impulse generator (20) for generating and distributing an electric Gaussian impulse signal of a median time period above a threshold median time period. An impulse shaper (22) is connected with an output of the impulse generator, and has a multiplier (24) comprised of factor inputs (24.1, 24.2) and a product output (24.3). The multiplier is formed for generating and distributing a product signal, which is proportional to a product of adjacent signals at the factor inputs and has the median time period above the threshold median time period. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating an electric Gaussian impulse signal.
