PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve capacity for printing high-quality images using linearly aligned orifice groups while minimizing crosstalk by substantially reducing the array spacing of a plurality of impulse ink jets. SOLUTION: The impulse ink jet apparatus comprises a plurality of ink-jet chambers 126 placed side by side which forms a linear array. Each chamber is terminated by at least one orifice 124 for discharging droplets along a discharge axis, and has an actuation location 128 arranged shifted to a side from the orifice. A plurality of elongated transducers 130 are each placed side by side of the actuation location, are arranged shifted to a side from the orifice, and have extension axes extending substantially parallel to the discharge axes of droplets. Further, there are provided manifolds 142 for supplying ink to the actuation locations, and a restrictor plate 138 having a plurality of holes 140 for connecting the manifolds to the actuation locations.
