The retractor has a force limiting device comprising a deformation body (16) i.e. ball, axially moved in case of a force limitation. A blocking unit (14) of the limiting device is extended into an interior of a belt reel (12), and is rotatably blocked on a frame in case of the force limitation, so that a relative rotation between the belt reel and the blocking unit takes place. The deformation body is taken along during the relative rotation of the belt reel, and deforms the blocking unit.
