PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of times of depressing operation keys as much as possible when inputting characters and to simply input characters without hesitation when inputting characters. SOLUTION: A character input device is provided with at least one multiple character input key 22 or the like capable of inputting a plurality of kinds of characters in the same language by one key and at least one designation keys 28, 29 capable of designating and inputting a specific kind of a character from the plurality of kinds of characters assigned to the multiple character input key 22 or the like on the basis of the number of times of depressing the multiple character input key after depressing the designation key itself once or more.
