PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external housing for a portable apparatus including a plurality of housings, the external housing being designed so as to be excellently resistant to falling or suchlike and allow a size reduction. SOLUTION: An external case 1, which is an external housing for a portable apparatus, is composed of a combination of front and rear covers 2 and 3. The rear cover 3 has counter faces 3a and 3b disposed opposite the front cover 2. The counter faces have grooves 3c in order that the rear cover 3 be combined with the front cover 2. The front cover 2 has counter faces 2a and 2b disposed opposite the counter faces 3a and 3b, and projections 2c fitted in the grooves 3c. The projection 2c has a wall surface including inclined faces 2d and 2e. The normal SO of one of the inclined faces to the inside of the wall is set so as not to intersect the other wall face. This makes bending moment less likely to act on the projection 2c even if the inclined face 2d or 2e comes into contact with the groove 3c. Accordingly, damage to the projection 2c is prevented.
