PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection-type photoelectric sensor with its set distance made larger, while avoiding deterioration in difference-correspondent performance. SOLUTION: This reflection-type photoelectric sensor that detects the distance to a detected object is equipped with a photodetector 20 receiving reflected light from the detected object in first and second light-receiving regions, and a light projecting element (LED) 14 projecting light toward the detected object. A turning angle, through which the projecting element 14 has been turned about a light projection axis, is determined so as to maximize the amount of variation in a received-light amount difference, when the detected object moves in a receding or approaching direction from a distance (set distance) where the amount difference in the first and second receiving regions is becomes zero.
