A method for diagnosing an output shaft sensor error in an automatic transmission is provided to prevent wrong diagnosis by determining whether a shift lever is stopped at a middle position. If a brake is not operated at 1-speed traveling speed, input/output error information of other portion is verified. If there is no error information, it is determined whether a shift lever stops at a middle position between a neutral mode and a drive mode. If the shift lever does not stop at the middle position, a vehicle speed is calculated by using revolutions of a turbine. Then, while maintaining No=0, if the vehicle speed X KPH continues above td seconds, it is determined that an output shaft sensor is error.
