PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology to efficiently perform subject recognition for image data. SOLUTION: A subject recognition device stores, in a subject dictionary part, a subject condition for identifying a subject type according to the hierarchical structure of subject types. A processing part collates image data with the subject condition to identify a type of a subject imaged in the image data. In addition, if a subject type Ku is additionally registered as an upper hierarchy of a registered subject type Kd, in the subject dictionary part, the processing part assumes image data of the subject type Kd as image data of the subject type Ku and classifies as such.
