摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide emission almost next to zero and reduce the amount of carbon monoxide emission to tolerance levels, to realize energy saving by combustion at a low air ratio close to 1.0, and to stably carry out the control of air ratio within the combustion region at a low air ratio. <P>SOLUTION: This method includes a combustion step of combusting a hydrocarbon-containing fuel by a burner to thereby produce a gas containing oxygen, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide but not containing hydrocarbons, a heat absorbing step of absorbing heat from the gas produced by the combustion step by a heat absorbing means, a hazardous substance reducing step of bringing the gas into contact with an oxidation catalyst after the heat absorbing step to thereby attain oxidization by oxygen of carbon monoxide contained in the gas and reduction by carbon monoxide of nitrogen oxide contained therein, and a concentration ratio regulation step of regulating the concentration ratio of oxygen, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide in the gas on the primary side of the oxidation catalyst to a prescribed concentration ratio by using an air ratio regulating means of the burner on the basis of the concentration ratio characteristic of the burner and the heat absorbing means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
