A method of diagnosing a rolling mill is provided to improve productivity by checking easily abnormalities of parts such as wear and deformation without disassembling a rolling mill or measuring accurately parts of the rolling mill, and improve quality defects of the strip by reducing distortion of a strip due to asymmetrical rolling. A method of diagnosing a rolling mill in the rolling direction and the roll axis direction comprises the steps of: measuring diameters of rolling directional contact surfaces of roll chocks and roll balance cylinder rods; calculating displacements of the rolling directional contact surfaces; comparing the measured diameters of the rolling directional contact surfaces with a rolling directional reference value according to the calculated displacements of the rolling directional contact surfaces to check corrosion and wear of roll chock side liners and mill housing window liners, and corrosion and wear of adhesion surfaces of the roll chock side liners and adhesion surfaces of the mill housing window liners; measuring diameters of roll axis directional contact surfaces of the roll chocks and the roll balance cylinder rods; calculating displacements of the roll axis directional contact surfaces; and comparing the measured diameters of the roll axis directional contact surfaces with an axis directional reference value according to the calculated displacements of the roll axis directional contact surfaces to check corrosion and wear of roll chock front liners, roll chock clamps, and roll chock clamp pins.
