PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a virus mutant as an anticancer agent and a pharmacological composition for cancer treatment containing the virus.

SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for using, as an anticancer agent, a mutant herpes simplex virus having γ34.5 gene modified to be non-functional in the γ34.5 gene of a long repeating region (RL) and having a functional ribonucleotide reductase gene, and a pharmacological composition for cancer treatment containing the virus. The pharmacological composition is useful for the treatment of metastatic tumor, especially metastatic melanoma and metastatic intracerebral tumor.
