A burning appliance (20) having a burner assembly (22) including a burner (30) for providing combustion. The appliance (20) includes a fuel tip (38) for supplying fuel to the burner assembly and a fuel control and cleaning as sembly (28) cooperating with the fuel tip to permit control of fuel supplied to the burner (30) and cleaning of the fuel tip (38) while the appliance is in operation. The cleaning assembly (28) may be formed on the appliance (30 ) itself and may incorporate a cleaning element (46), a cleaning element con trol mechanism (48) and a heat dissipating interface (52) positioned with re spect to the cleaning element and the cleaning element control mechanism suc h that a user may control the cleaning element with the cleaning element con trol mechanism without the use of gloves or other protective equipment while the appliance (20) is in operation.
