<p>The car transporter trailer incorporates one or more rear axles (2), the wheels of which can fold away into recesses (4) provided in the lower platform (5). The axle is connected to two springs (6) which pivot about an axis (7). The axle suspension arms (8) pivot about the same axis and are secured in a retracted position by releasable locking pins (9) passing through the chassis (10). Each arm is connected to a spring (6) by e.g. pneumatic bellows (11) containing bump-stops (12). Along with e.g. cables (13), these limit movement of the axle. The folding axle allows empty trailers to be carried more compactly on e.g. railway vehicles.</p> |
