Production of granulates, preferably a washing or cleaning agent granulates or a component for this purpose, comprises: (a) providing a carrier material, (b) mixing a brightener system and a binder to form a brightener-binder-preparation and (c) spraying the preparation on the carrier material, where the brightener system comprises one or more optical brightener. The brightener-binder preparation comprises water, one or more acid(s) and/or salt(s), preferably a buffer system. At least one of the optical brightener, preferably all optical brighteners exhibit(s) a particle. Independent claims are included for: (1) granulates, preferably washing- or cleaning agent granulates or a component for this purpose, comprising a carrier material and a coating, which comprises optical brightener and binder, where the granulates show a white level of above 110, preferably of above 115; and (2) use of a preparation (I) comprising a binder, which contains surfactant, preferably niosurfactant, optical brightener, acids and/or salts, preferably a buffer system and water for coating a carrier material and for increasing the white level of a carrier material.
