Pesticides are treated to increase their wettability by bringing the pesticide in a finely divided state (about 10m ) into intimate contact with the liquid in which a hydrophilic surface-active substance is dissolved and subsequently removing an excess quantity of the said liquid. Pesticides comprise tetramethylthiuram disulphide (TMTD), zinc dimethyl dithiocarbaminate (Ziram), zinc ethylene bis-dithiocarbaminate (Zineb), copper oxide chloride, phenyl mercury bromide, octachlor dihydrodicyclopentadiene (chlordane), rotenone, hexachlorocyclohexane, dinitro - ortho - sec - butylphenol (DNBP), para - dichlor - diphenyl - trichlorethane (DDT), trichlormethyl - para - acetylaminobenzene thiolsulphonate, polyhalogen diphenylsulphones, for example Tedion, furthermore hexachlor hexahydro-dimethanonaphthalene tetrachlor - diphenyl - sulphone and the oxidation product of the sodium salt of dimethyl dithiocarbaminate acid in water with ammonium persulphate. Wetting agents mentioned are alkyl-aryl sulphonates, partial esters of higher fatty acids, polyglycol ethers, dodecyl-benzenesulphonate, butylnaphthalene sulphonate, sulphuric acid esters of higher aliphatic alcohols, for example of lauryl alcohol, partial esters of polyalcohols and higher fatty acids, for example monostearinic acid esters of glycerine, the alkaline and alkaline-earth lignine sulphonates, polyoxyethylene derivatives of partial esters of higher polyalcohols with higher fatty acids, polyoxyethylene ethers of higher aliphatic alcohols, reaction products of polyoxyethylene with higher fatty acids or oxy-fatty acids, polyoxyethylene sorbitol-oleate, calcium lignine sulphonate and alkyl phenoxy polyether alcohol.
