PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which enables a printer for single-side printing to be easily upgraded to a printer for double-side printing. SOLUTION: The thermal printer comprises an opening and closing lid 12 set to be freely openable and closeable to a case body 11, a feeding mechanism 23 which supplies a thermal paper P along a paper conveyance path 22, a first platen 52 which is set at the opening and closing lid 12 and arranged by holding the paper conveyance path 22 between it and a first thermal head 51 in a state with the opening and closing lid 12 being closed to the case body 11 side, a thermal head loading part 14 which is set at the opening and closing lid 12 and arranged by holding the paper conveyance path 22 between it and a second platen 62 in a state with the opening and closing lid 12 being closed to the case body 11 side, and a second thermal head 61 loaded removably to the thermal head loading part 14.
