An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device and a driver thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by controlling a backlight unit of the LCD device according to the magnitude of external brightness. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device includes a liquid crystal panel(100) and a backlight unit(180). The liquid crystal panel includes a photo sensor(150), a signal processor(170), and a sensor controller(157). The photo sensor is formed at a boundary between display and non-display areas. The signal processor, which is electrically connected to the photo sensor, generates control signals corresponding to external beams detected by the photo sensor. The sensor controller, which is formed between the photo sensor and signal processor, controls the generated signals corresponding to the external beam. The backlight unit controls the brightness of beams radiated to the liquid crystal panel according to the control signal of the signal processor.
