PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing unit suppressing a wrong operation of a control lever for switching the relative positions of a heating roller and a pressing roller, and also to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing unit includes: the heating roller 6 having a heat-generation source; the pressing roller 5 which can change over the relative positions to the heating roller 6 according to the time of shipping, the time of maintenance work or the time of ordinary use; and the control lever 7 which is operative to change over the relative positions of the pressing roller 5 and the heating roller 6 according to their manipulated variables, in which a wedge-shaped projection 91 to regulate the return of the control lever 7 to the time of shipping from the position according to the time of maintenance work, or the time of ordinary use, is included.
