<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve picture quality of printing image, to avoid unnecessary color printing, and to reduce costs of printing by printing black-and-white images and color images suitable to black-and-white printing black-and-white in an image forming system where an image pickup device, a recording medium, and an image forming apparatus are directly connected. <P>SOLUTION: A digital camera determines with a color/black-and white determining means whether or not a black-and-white image or color image having color information closer to the black-and-white image is included in image information to be printed. When it is determined that a color image having the color information closer to the black-and-white image is included (B3 to B7), an instruction to induce switching from color printing to black-and-white printing is displayed to a display part of the image forming apparatus. Also, the camera has a switching means for making it impossible to execute unnecessary image processing, such as "red-eye compensation" to be executed while color printing during the black-and-white printing, and a display means for displaying an instruction to execute image processing capable of printing the black-and-white image beautifully while color printing.
