A moulding material comprises continuous reinforcement fibres 21, at least some of which are cut P1-16 at a point along their length. The fibres are preferably arranged to form a layer or tape which may have a releasable backing layer to maintain its integrity. The backing layer may be made of paper, plastics, resinous or other fibre material. The fibres are preferably generally parallel, unidirectional, have a plurality of cuts and are cut to a length of 5-100 mm. The cuts may extend across a plurality or all fibres and may be perpendicular or at an angle to the direction of the fibres. The cuts may be uniformly spaced, arranged in a pattern or may be provided in specific areas of the material. Resinous material may be provided on at least one surface of the fibrous material with no impregnation. The cuts allow the material to drape better and so conform to the mould and reduce bridging. The fibres may be woven, knitted, braided or stitched fibrous materials. |
