The invention comprises thiophosphonic and thiophosphinic esters of formula <FORM:0890424/IV (b)/1> where R1 is C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy, R2 is C1-4 alkyl, "alkylene" is an ethylene radical or an alkyl-substituted ethylene radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms, Y and Z, which are different, are oxygen or sulphur, and X is an alkoxy or dialkylamino radical, the alkyl radicals of which contain up to 4 carbon atoms. Their preparation may be illustrated by the equation <FORM:0890424/IV (b)/2> where Me is an alkali metal or ammonium radical; in a modification <FORM:0890424/IV (b)/3> may be used with an alkali metal alcoholate. A solvent may be used. The products are insecticides (see Group VI).ALSO:Insecticidal compositions contain a thiophosphonic or thiolphosphinic ester of formula <FORM:0890424/VI/1> where R1 is C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy, R2 is C1-4 alkyl, "alkylene" is an ethylene radical or an alkyl-substituted ethylene radical containing up to 4 carbon atoms, Y and Z, which are different, are oxygen or sulphur, and X is an alkoxy or dialkylamino radical, the alkyl radicals of which contain up to 4 carbon atoms, together with a solid or liquid carrier or diluent. |
