A method for providing a character input screen in a mobile communication terminal and the mobile communication terminal thereof are provided to indicate a local time zone with a background image, thereby providing a local time zone at a place, where there is the other party, to a user when the user attempts dialing. A method for providing a character input screen in a mobile communication terminal comprises the following steps of: recognizing the strength of a received signal and a current time zone in the mobile communication terminal(605); displaying a screen where animation data, changed in correspondence to the strength of the received signal, is outputted on a background image according to the current time zone; displaying characters inputted in correspondence to a request for the output of the characters in the mobile communication terminal on the screen; determining whether a specific code indicating a position is included in the key string of the inputted characters(630); and checking the current time zone of a position corresponding to the specific code and changing the background image into a background image indicating the current time zone of the checked position(635,640).
