The invention concerns fireproof glazings. The inventive glazings comprise an intumescent material based on hydrated alkali silicate, formed from compositions obtained adding to alkaline silicate solutions aqueous dispersions of colloidal silica, the colloidal silica representing at least 25 % of the total silica. In said compositions, potassium/sodium atomic ratio is greater than 4/1, and the apparent Si/ alkali molar ratio is more than 3,5 and less than 10. The intumescent material is obtained by drying the compositions bringing down their apparent humidity to a value not exceeding 55 %. The intumescent materials have in particular a very high resistance to aging, and their drying time is relatively short. |
