An infrared image pickup means (3) outputs two infrared images with different view points while a visible ray image pickup means (5) outputs two visible ray images with different view points. A distance calculating means (7) calculates a distance between the infrared image pickup means or the visible ray image pickup means and an object (8) in accordance with the two infrared images or the two visible ray images. An image selecting means (6) for finding a range selects whether the distance is calculated by the two infrared images or the two visible ray images based on at least one of the two infrared images or at least one of the two visible ray images. When the distance is calculated, either the two infrared images or the two visible ray images are selected in light of situations, so that accurate range finding can be calculated in accordance with the situations.
