PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cable in which a proportion occupied by the groove part is greatly improved in the cross section of a slot while strength of the rib part is maintained equally to a conventional one. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cable is provided with a slot having a plurality of grooves for housing optical fibers. The cable is characterized in that the grooves with different depths are alternately arranged, that, assuming 1<SB>1</SB>is the shortest inter-groove distance between the deep grooves, d<SB>1</SB>is the depth of the deep grooves, 1<SB>2</SB>is the shortest distance between the deep groove and the shallow groove, and d<SB>2</SB>is the depth of the shallow grooves, expressions of 1<SB>1</SB>/d<SB>1</SB>, 1<SB>2</SB>/d<SB>2</SB>≥0.26 are satisfied, and that the proportion of the area occupied by the grooves of the slot is≥40% relative to the circular cross sectional area calculated from the outer diameter of the slot.
