PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably hold two or more kinds of tool holders having shank parts different in mechanical structure to be replaceable on a common spindle by the corresponding tool holding mechanisms. SOLUTION: This spindle head apparatus 10 includes: the spindle 12; and a tool holding mechanism 16 removably holding the tool holder 14 on the spindle 12. The tool holding mechanism 16 includes: a tool support member 52 having a receiving recessed part 40 for removably receiving the shank part 46 of the tool holder 14; a tool clamp member 54 disposed to be displaced between a working position and a non-working position mentioned later relative to the tool support member 52, and adapted to catch a shunk part 46 of the tool holder 14 to fixedly hold the shunk part 46 in the receiving recessed part 50 of the tool support member 52 in the working position and release the shunk part 46 to allow the attaching and detaching operation of the tool holder 14 to the receiving recessed part 50 in the non-working position; and a mounting member 56 for removalby mounting the tool support member 52 and the tool clamp member 54 on the spindle 12.
