In a multiple blade saw comprising a pair of end frames, the ends of the blades are held solely by friction in at least one of the frames, and longitudinal frames connecting the end frames have means to force the end frames apart to tension the blades. An end frame comprises uprights 10 or 10<SP>1</SP> connected to saw-holding blocks 16, 18. The ends of the blades 22 are clamped between spacers 24 held between a pair of the blocks, the clamping force being adjusted by screws 34. The longitudinal frames comprise rods 52 fixed to the uprights 10 and sliding within the uprights 10<SP>1</SP>, the tension of the blades being determined by the setting of screws 54 engaging the ends of the rods. The frames and blades are reciprocated by a connecting rod 70, the members 10, 10<SP>1</SP> carrying bearings 44, 48 sliding on guides 6, 8. The blades are strips of metal fed with grit to facilitate sawing. A workpiece 62 is mounted on a lever 56 and urged towards the blades by a weight 64. |
