PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system, its control method, and control program that allows improvement in the accuracy of the position of own vehicle, by increasing the frequency of unit distance calculation. SOLUTION: An image detecting section 41 detects road-surface characteristic objects in an image photographed by a camera 4. On the basis of this detection, an intersection decision section 52 decides whether the vehicle has entered an intersection, and stores the decision to a buffer memory.
