PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of estimated oil temperature after engine start by minimizing error of estimated oil temperature initial value operated at a time of engine start. SOLUTION: The estimated oil temperature initial value THOstart at a time of engine start is calculated by a formula shown below. THOstart=THWstart-(THWstop-THOstop)×K1. In this formula, THWstart is cooling water temperature at a time of engine start, THWstop is cooling water temperature at a time of engine stop, THOstop is estimated oil temperature at the time of engine stop, and K1 is a correction value corresponding to engine stop time. Ambient temperature at the time of engine start is established as a lower limit guard value of the estimated oil temperature initial value THOstart to guard a lower limit of the estimated oil temperature initial value THOstart by ambient temperature at the time of engine start.
