PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a video storage device for storing video information obtained by a monitor camera to retain the stored video information. SOLUTION: The video storage device includes: a video storage section 22 for storing the video information; a storage processing section 21 for receiving the video information and storing the video information to the video storage section 22; a processing rule storage section 25 for storing processing rule information and compression system information in compressing the video information; a monitoring means 24 for monitoring whether to satisfy the processing rule on the basis of the processing rule information of the processing rule storage section 25; a video compression section 26 for extracting and compressing the appropriate video information stored in the video storage section 22 by the compression system information of the processing rule storage section 25 on the basis of a result of the monitoring by the monitoring means 24; and a video reproduction output section 27 for reading the video information stored in the video storage section 22 and providing a reproduction output.
