Provided are a method and apparatus for confirming a real-time location. In the method, identification (ID) information of transportation fare payment media and at least one personal portable terminal number associated with the ID information are stored in a database. When a transportation fare payment medium is used for paying a transportation fare byusing a transportation fare collection terminal of a public transportation vehicle, a personal portable terminal number corresponding to the ID information of the transportation fare payment medium is read from the database. Location information of the transportation fare collection terminal is transmitted to thepersonal portable terminal corresponding to the read personal portable terminal number.
