PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device for an elevator which does not store all of reference patterns but acquires all of the other reference patterns from a basic pattern under a certain condition. SOLUTION: In the abnormality detection device, the reference pattern in normal travel is stored in a storage device 2 in advance and is compared with signal output in checking of an elevator, so that existence/nonexistence of abnormality of the elevator is detected. When a signal for setting the reference pattern at normal time is changed depending on a travelling condition such as a travel speed or a direction of travel, the reference pattern acquired by travelling the elevator under a certain condition is stored as a single basic pattern in the storage device after separating the pattern into a global component 6 indicating tendency as a whole and a vibrational component 5 indicating vibrational action, and then difference between the basic pattern and all of other reference patterns is corrected by using an interpolation equation, so that all of other reference patterns is acquired.
