A nonaqueous electrolyte is provided to ensure sufficient stability upon overcharge of a lithium secondary battery, and to improve the stability, performances, and lifespan of a lithium secondary battery. A nonaqueous electrolyte comprises an organic solvent, a lithium salt, 4-chlorotoluene, and 4-fluorodiphenyl ether. The 4-chlorotoluene 0.1-20 parts by weight and 4-fluorodiphenyl ether 0.1-10 parts by weight are contained based on 100 parts by weight of the organic solvent and lithium salt. The lithium secondary battery includes: the nonaqueous electrolyte; an electrode part consisting of a positive electrode and a negative electrode between which the nonaqueous electrolyte is interposed and which are opposite to each other; and a separator which electrically separates the positive electrode from the negative electrode. |
