PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of allowing an external device to apply an automatic electronic filing to read image data without imposing a heavy load on a user. SOLUTION: The composite machine (image reading apparatus) 20 acquires attribute information associated with image data obtained by a read section 2 for reading an image of an original on the basis of a voice input of a user. The user enters the attribute information in voice by using a microphone 10 according to a voice guidance outputted from a speaker 13. A voice recognition section 11 analyzes a waveform of the voice received from the microphone 10 to acquire attribute information as character information. The composite machine 20 outputs attached image data formed by attaching the acquired attribute information to the read image data to the external device 21 such as a MODEM unit, a PC or another composite machine via a communication line L2 from an interface section 16.
