PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that an original image in a file with a file name is lost when an image file is captured in a personal computer and the same file name exists in the file including the original image because an old file is overwritten by a new file in the case that the personal computer captures image data photographed by a plurality of digital cameras and collectively manages the image data. SOLUTION: An image data recording method includes: a step S002 of comparing a file name of an image file having already been recorded with a file name of an image file recorded from now and on; a step S003 of comparing furthermore photographing date and time information items or exposure associated information items at the photographing of the image files when there exists an image file with the same file name; and steps S004, S005 each creating a file name and replacing the file name of the file going to be recorded with the created file name when the photographing date and time information items or exposure associated information items at photographing are not the same and recording the new file with the created file name. Thus, the accidental overwriting of the original image can be prevented. Further, even if the file name of the image file to be recorded is revised and a new file name is created, since the file name before the revision is recorded in the image file in the recording step, the created file name can be restored to the file name before the revision as required at any time.
