PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact imaging apparatus capable of improving the system performance at moving picture photographing cost-effectively. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a size conversion section 71 for converting image data for configuring one frame of moving picture data into data with a compression size; a compression image data generating section 72 for dividing after-conversion image data whose size is converted into macroblocks each comprising one pixel block or over, and rearranging the pixel blocks configuring each macroblock to generate compression image data; a compression coding section 73 for applying compression coding processing to the compression image data; and a memory 74 connected to a bus exclusively for the size conversion section 71 and the compression image data generating section 72. The after-conversion image data adopt a form wherein many macroblock rows each comprising many macroblocks arranged in a first direction are arranged in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, the size conversion section 71 stores the after-conversion image data in the memory 74 in the unit of the macroblock row, and the compression image data generating section 72 generates the compression image data from the macroblock rows recorded in the memory 74.
