Method and apparatus for manufacturing insulating webs or plates from mineral fibers

The laid mineral fiber (2) enters a processing station (21) which is preferably orientated at right angles to this direction. Here it is stretched before entering the hardening oven. The speed of the web is varied in one or more stations, to achieve extension or compression. This takes place immediately after the fiber treatment unit. Stretching optionally precedes laying in a zig-zag formation, by reciprocating machinery. Higher tensile stressing is exerted on the web, locally. Sensors measure applied tensions. 5%-12% stretching is preferably applied. Further variations of the formation process are described. The binder is sprayed in, as an aerosol. Pressure is applied along a line at right angles to the conveying direction. Finishing roller treatments are detailed. An independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.
