1,262,046. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. TOYO KOGYO CO. Ltd. April 29, 1970 [April 30, 1969], No.20692/70. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston I. C. engine comprising a housing having a centre wall 1 with a two-lobed epitrochoidal inner periphery and side walls 2 and a three-sided piston 3 planetarily rotatable within the housing, includes in at least one side face, as shown both, a twin inlet port connected to a common intake manifold 8 comprising a main part 10 disposed radially within the sliding trace upon the side wall of the piston corner seals and an auxiliary port 15 disposed radially outside the sliding trace and separated from the main port 10 by a bridge 11. Openings 12 in the side walls 2 and 14 in the centre wall 1 adjacent the side walls 2 increase the area of the auxiliary ports. The provision of the twin ports permits the engine to maintain performance at low speed and low load operation and improve performance at high speed and high load operation and compares favourably with an engine having both a side inlet port and a peripheral inlet port. |
