958,128. Platform elevators on vehicles. AUTOLIFTS & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 1, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 37610/60. Heading B8E. A loading-platform 10, Fig. 3, on a vehicle slides on guiding columns 58 whilst being raised to a position 10b by an hydraulic ram 28, Fig. 2, and cables 50, 52. Power for driving an hydraulic pump is drawn from the vehicle battery. An overload valve returns liquid directly to a reservoir if the platform jams and when the platform reaches its upper position. Alternatively, a limit switch may cut out the hydraulic pump motor at the upper position of the platform. In both cases a non-return valve prevents the platform from descending. The laterally disposed hydraulic cylinder 28, Fig. 2, carries pulleys 84, 44 mounted respectively on the cylinder and the piston-rod. Cables 50, 52, attached to the cylinder at 46, 48 pass round the pulley 44 and have their opposite ends attached to the platform 10 after passing over guide-pulleys 86, 84, 80, 82, 72. When the piston-rod is projected the cables are effectively shortened and the platform rises.
