PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save energy by reducing the work load due to frictional resistance in cutting and to reduce maintenance work by restraining adhesion and accumulation of waste such as paper dust and fiber scraps. SOLUTION: In this surface machining method for cutting tools, silica particles 3 which are not angular and baked is scattered to adhere to the surface of the cutting tool made of iron-based metal and at least including a working area. Since the particles are micro-particles, high sliding performance is exhibited from the first coat surface of the cutting tool because of its material quality and shape characteristics without deteriorating the sharpness of the cutting tools, thereby reducing frictional resistance in cutting.
