A backlight and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to fix a U-shape lamp to a lamp fixing member formed at a side support, thereby preventing the non-uniformity of brightness. A lamp fixing member(134) is installed at the front of a side support(130). A U-shaped lamp(140) is inserted into and fixed in the lamp fixing member. A reflection plate is installed at the lower portion of the U-shaped lamp. Penetration holes are formed at both sides of the side support so that a curved portion of the U-shaped lamp is inserted. A pad(136) is formed at the lower portion of the curved portion of the U-shaped lamp. The pad is made of silicon. The lamp fixing member is a semi cylinder, a triangle or square shape. The upper corner of the U-shaped lamp is chamfered. An optical sheet is equipped to the upper portion of the U-shaped lamp. The U-shaped lamp is a CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp).
