A theft reporting system using a telematics system and a method thereof are provided to report a theft and position information of a vehicle to the police station by enabling an owner to check the position of the vehicle from the remote place. A telematics terminal(10) judges whether a stranger invades a vehicle or not through a vehicle diagnosing unit, generates and transmits a theft sensing message including the state and position information of the stolen vehicle, and receives a position information transmission request message and periodically transmits a vehicle position information message including own position information. A communication terminal(70) transmits a position tracking request message in receiving a theft informing message, receives the vehicle position information message received in response to the position tracking request message, and then informs the vehicle owner of the vehicle position information message. A service provision center(50) transmits a theft informing message to the communication terminal in receiving the theft sensing message from the telematics terminal, transmits the position tracking request message to the telematics terminal in receiving the position tracking request message, and then receives the position tracking information message received in response to the position tracking request message, from the telematics terminal and transmits the position tracking information message to the communication terminal.
