PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of preventing excessive refrigerating capacity increase at last in transferring from an idling state to a travelling state and preventing excessive lowering of evaporator outlet air temperature. SOLUTION: This air conditioner for the vehicle has a freezing circuit furnished with a variable displacement compressor and an evaporator, a travelling state determining means to discriminate whether it is the idling state or the travelling state, a detection means of the evaporator outlet air temperature, a target value setting means to set a target value of the evaporator outlet air temperature and a compressor capacity control means to adjust a capacity control signal to output to the compressor by proportional and integral enumeration or proportional, integral and differential enumeration so that the evaporator outlet air temperature becomes the target value, and the enumerated value of the integral enumeration is characteristically returned to the calculated value at a point of time when the idling state starts when transfer from the idling state to the travelling state is detected by the travelling state determining means.
