PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus wherein dust hardly adheres to a photographing range on a document guide plate 24 and the occurrence of dust on a platen glass transparent member and movement of dust to a read position are less caused. SOLUTION: A document passes through a gap between a platen glass plate (platen glass transparent member) 161 and the document guide plate 24 and a first optical stand (159) reads a line image on a document side at the read position 160. A recess 24b is formed with a structure having a range before and after a read position 160 of the document guide plate 24 by 1.5 mm that is flatly moved backward. A space is formed to a rear side of the document at the read position 160 by supporting the rear side of the carried document by projections 24d, 24e being edges of the recess 24b.
